Dispatcher / Freight Coordinator (1099 – Remote)

About the Role We are a growing transportation and logistics operation (30 trucks) seeking an experienced Dispatcher / Freight Coordinator to manage daily freight operations. This role requires strong load-planning skills, attention to detail, and the ability to proactively manage drivers, freight, and compliance in a fast-moving environment. This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Key Responsibilities • Book freight using major load boards (DAT, Truckstop, etc.) • Communicate with brokers and develop new customer relationships • Identify and pursue new freight opportunities and lanes • Track driver Hours of Service (HOS) to ensure on-time pickups and deliveries • Monitor weather conditions and proactively reroute or delay drivers to avoid unsafe storm areas • Ensure trucks are dispatched in compliance with: state-specific restrictions, commodity limitations, equipment and compliance rules • Track loads from pickup to delivery and provide timely updates • Maintain professional communication with brokers, drivers, and internal team • Update dispatch systems, spreadsheets, and load tracking tools daily • Enter and manage data accurately using Excel and dispatch systems • Stay on top of load changes, delays, and operational updates in real time What We’re Looking For • Strong understanding of spot market freight • Experience booking loads and negotiating rates • Solid grasp of HOS rules (11/14/70, split sleeper, etc.) • Ability to think ahead and plan around weather, hours, and appointments • Comfortable working in Excel / spreadsheets • Highly organized and detail-oriented • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Calm under pressure and solutions-focused • Reliable internet and ability to work independently Compliance & Operational Standards Dispatchers must follow established operating procedures, including: • Verifying HOS, driver availability, and load feasibility before booking • Avoiding high-risk freight and restricted commodities • Tracking all loads and documenting communication • Escalating issues immediately when safety, delays, or compliance concerns arise • Maintaining professionalism at all times Compensation Structure • $600/week guaranteed base • As loads produce higher gross revenue, pay transitions to a percentage-based model • Top performers consistently earn $1,200–$1,800/week • No cap — income grows with performance Schedule • 7am-5pm EST M-F (Regular dispatching & freight market hours) • Remote Pay: From $600.00 per week Benefits: • Paid time off • Professional development assistance Application Question(s): • Briefly explain how you verify a driver has enough Hours of Service before booking a load. • What factors do you consider when deciding if a load rate is acceptable for an Owner-Operator? • Which brokerages and load boards have you worked with?
