Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Kindergarten students in a Yupik immersion program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in elementary education, experience in teaching Yupik language and culture, and a passion for working with young children. The candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons, assessing student progress, and working collaboratively with other teachers and staff members to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver lessons to Kindergarten students in a Yupik immersion program
- Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and parents
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff members to develop and implement curriculum
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student learning and well-being
- Communicate effectively with parents and the community to promote the program and provide updates on student progress
- Participate in professional development opportunities to improve teaching skills and stay up-to-date on best practices in Yupik language and culture education
- Develop and maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and program activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following essential qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education
- Alaska Teaching Certification or eligibility for Type M Yugtun Language Teaching Certification
- Experience in teaching Yupik language and culture
- Strong knowledge of Yupik language and culture
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Yupik
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others
- Strong commitment to providing high-quality education to all students
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Master's degree in Education or a related field
- Experience in teaching in a Yupik immersion program
- Knowledge of child development and learning theories
- Experience in developing and implementing curriculum
- Strong technology skills, including experience with educational software and hardware
- Ability to speak fluently in Yupik
