About the roleWe're looking for an experienced and forward-thinking individual to supercharge our development of GenAI products across Motorway. This role will pioneer our efforts in deploying cutting-edge GenAI solutions, including agentic systems, advanced reasoning models, and context-aware architectures, to enhance operational efficiency internally and optimise the vehicle buying and selling journey externally.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping Motorway’s future by identifying opportunities, building rapid prototypes, and developing lasting, scalable implementations. Equally important will be your expertise in evaluating AI system performance, managing risks, understanding current limitations, and guiding teams on responsible and strategic AI deployment.
The role uniquely blends technical engineering with product management responsibilities, supporting our GenAI strategy, and would be a great fit for somebody who loves to empathise with our users to build exciting products that meet our unique requirements across the business.
During your first 12 months you will:Work closely with the Head of Machine Learning and key stakeholders across Motorway to identify and prioritise high-impact use cases for Generative AI.
Develop end-to-end AI solutions, including agentic AI systems that dynamically adapt their interactions to evolving goals, solving real problems.
Implement comprehensive evaluation methodologies and observability frameworks specifically tailored to assess performance, reliability, and safety of agentic AI solutions.
Help to shape and develop Motorway’s Generative AI strategy
Work across the organisation to run workshops and help upskill colleagues best practices around agentic frameworks, reasoning models, tools (inc. Model Context Protocol), and AI solution deployments.
Demonstrable experience designing, developing, and deploying Generative AI solutions that deliver measurable business impact.
Skills in stakeholder management with proven experience effectively communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
A collaborative spirit coupled with a strong drive to solve difficult problems using cutting-edge and rapidly evolving technologies.
Self-sufficient ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and solution architecture for complex AI systems.
Strong experience building and consuming API services in Python, using FastAPI or similar.
Strong experience with LLM frameworks such as langchain, Pydantic-AI, Google ADK, OpenAI’s Assistants, litellm, etc (it’s not required to know them all), and an understanding of how they facilitate agentic AI development.
Strong practical knowledge of prompt engineering techniques and advanced LLM concepts, such as CoT reasoning, prompt chaining, iterative refinement, RAG techniques, MCP, multi-agent architectures, and a clear understanding of when each should be applied.
Proven experience with Cloud technologies on GCP or AWS (GCP preferred) including serverless architectures and microservices development.
Deep understanding of evaluation strategies and observability tools for assessing AI performance, reliability, robustness, cost, and overall effectiveness.
Expertise with SOTA LLMs such as Gemini, GPT/o-series, Claude, Deepseek, Llama 4, etc. Experience with Google’s Gemini/Gemma LLMs are preferred.
Desirable:
Experience prototyping user-facing interfaces using Python front-end frameworks such as Streamlit or Gradio.
Working knowledge of modern JavaScript/TypeScript front-end frameworks (we use NodeJS, NextJS & React).
Practical experience building LLM-driven agents designed explicitly to automate multi-step workflows and enhance internal productivity.
