The Student Retention Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing intervention and retention plans to ensure student success. This involves working closely with students, outreach service providers, other staff, and faculty to identify those whose behaviors indicate a lack of academic progress. By collaborating with staff, you will develop an early alert system to provide timely feedback about student academic progress and monitor student action plans aligned with short-term and long-term educational, post-secondary, and career objectives.
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess an Associate or Bachelor's degree, although a high school diploma or equivalent will be considered with relevant experience. You should have experience working with high-risk youth and adults, as well as knowledge of adolescent development. The ideal candidate will have a background in supporting students with career, college, and post-secondary planning.
To excel as a Student Retention Specialist, you will need to possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective intervention and retention plans. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you will be working closely with students, staff, and community partners. You should be able to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
