Job Overview
We are currently seeking 4 ELA tutors to work with students in grades K-5 at the Asbury Park Boys & Girls Club. As a School Year Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic development of our scholars, working closely with our team to provide personalized instruction and guidance. Our program runs from October 4, 2023, to May 30, 2024, with tutoring sessions taking place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with scholars in grades K-5 to build on existing mathematics and/or literacy skills, using a tailored approach to meet individual needs and learning styles
- Complete daily records on scholar progress and site needs using the tools provided, ensuring accurate and timely tracking of student development
- Use data to drive instruction, informing your teaching practices and adapting to the unique needs of your students
- Communicate regularly with your site coordinator to provide optimum learning experiences for scholars, ensuring a collaborative and supportive team environment
- Participate in coaching from an instructional coach, embracing opportunities for professional growth and development
- Use an asset-based approach in working with scholars, focusing on strengths and abilities to foster confidence and motivation
- Be responsive and work collaboratively with other tutors and site staff, contributing to a positive and inclusive team culture
- Complete all training, including paid training sessions via Zoom, to ensure you are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this role
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you will need to meet the following essential qualifications:
- Experience working with young children, preferably in a learning and teaching capacity, with a deep understanding of child development and educational principles
- Standard certificate, certificate of eligibility (CE), or certificate of eligibility with advanced standing (CEAS) to receive the $40 hourly pay rate, demonstrating your commitment to professional development and excellence in education
- New Jersey Certification of Criminal History (fingerprint form), ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students
- Experience with Google Suite functions, including Google Sheets and Forms, with the ability to leverage technology to enhance teaching and learning
- Professional skills, including attention to detail, timely and proactive communication, and job preparedness, with a strong work ethic and dedication to delivering high-quality results
- Reliable transportation to travel to sites, with the ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Genuine desire to work with young children in a teaching capacity, building on foundational skills and closing learning gaps using formative and summative data and strong teaching pedagogy
- Background Clearance, with a commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment
- Local COVID requirements of the LEA site, including any mask rules that must be followed while indoors, if applicable, with a focus on prioritizing student and staff well-being
